It is strongly recommended that you install the same fonts that would be available on Windows. This is especially important for the following applications: Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and PowerPoint, Microsoft's Word, PowerPoint and Excel viewers, and other similar applications that require a precise text layout. The reason is that when a font requested by the application is not available, CrossOver is forced to substitute it with another similar but different font. CrossOver will automatically try to find the font that best matches the original, but various aspects of the replacement, especially the width/height ratio, will not be an exact match for the original font. Because of this, in PowerPoint presentations the text may end up being larger and/or higher than intended by the author, causing it to overlap with other elements of the presentation. Similar issues may arise with other applications.
Fortunately CrossOver will automatically detect fonts installed in a number of standard locations, including on a Windows partition. If that is the case some fonts may appear in the installed applications list as soon as CrossOver is installed. If CrossOver failed to detect the fonts from your Windows partition, or fonts located in another directory, see the Fonts tab section for instructions on how to remedy that.
Note also that some applications may install TrueType fonts as part of their installation. Such fonts fonts will automatically and immediately be made available to CrossOver applications.
The Fonts tab within OfficeSetup allows you to view the available fonts, and to install fonts selectively. In most cases, though, the simplest way to install standard fonts is via the Install Fonts button on the add/remove tab. Clicking this button will launch a special CrossOver Installation Wizard which will download and install a full set of fonts, one after another.

If you already have a full set of fonts installed in a bottle (or available system-wide due to your linux configuration), the Install Fonts button will be disabled. In this case you should see "All core fonts" in the list of installed applications. |

If there are no bottles installed in your system, the Install Fonts button will be disabled. Fonts installed by CrossOver are specific to a bottle -- different bottles may contain different sets of fonts. You may wish to install the core fonts in each of your bottles. |
Note that fonts installed by CrossOver will not be available for use by
regular Unix applications. To make these TrueType fonts available to your
Unix applications, follow the procedure described in your Linux distribution
documentation. You will find the font .ttf
files in
~/.cxoffice/
.
